Can Learning How To Detox Your Body Promote Your Well Being

I’ve been fortunate enough to enjoy good health for pretty much all my life. I’ve managed to avoid being ill, and colds and viruses never seem to latch on to me – at least nothing that struck for longer than a few hours. So when I completely lost all my energy and was feeling run down all the time it was quite a shock to my system, and getting out of bed in the morning was becoming quite a chore. I’d been a regular visitor to the hospital for test after test, but they couldn’t find anything wrong with me.

I was visiting a chiropractor one day for an old “war wound”, and she suggested I needed to detox my body, and put some effort into learning how to detox and how my eating habits may be affecting my health. It sounded like a good idea, so took it upon myself to learn as much about the process as possible, and get to grips with what is really involved and why the natural health industry advocate doing a detox and suggest getting started with the 7 day detox diet so strongly.

Another thing she suggested to me was to try a foot detox. I now use a foot spa about twice a week, if you don’t want to invest in a foot spa, the detox foot patch can be just as good – although your don’t get the relaxing foot massage at the same time

Here’s some healthy detox diet tips I discovered.

Herbal teas and water and plenty of both

Drinking plenty of fluid is absolutely vital while you are following a detox diet because the water will help your body excrete toxins from your system. There’s lots of other health reasons to drink water as it helps prevent constipation, improves concentration, and helps reduce the signs of aging by plumping up your skin. Your goal should be to drink about 8 glasses (or 2 liters) of water each day, but increase that when the weather is hot.

As a guideline, aim to drink an extra half liter of water for every hour you exercise. Choose still mineral water, or tap water that has been filtered, or boiled and then cooled. Ideally drink water that is at room temperature. Feel free to substitute herbal teas if you can’t face all that water – preferably loose leaf rather than tea bags. Green tea, horsetail, camomile and roibosch (or redbush) are particularly good as their hidden ingredients help boost the detox process. Roibosch (Redbush) tea has other health benefits too as it is a rich source of natural antioxidants.

Do You Need To Go Organic

Buying organic produce where possible is better for your health but not totally necessary, because organic is usually much more expensive, but a little organic produce will go a long way to getting you started.

If you can’t find or afford organic fruits and veggies, it’s not a problem. It’s more important that you eat plentiful amounts of fresh foods regardless of them being organic or not, instead of eating too few of them. Having said that, there are some very beneficial health reasons of eating organic food on a healthy detox diet.

Organic foods are free from artificial pesticides and sprays, which means they are very low or even free from toxins like man made chemicals and toxins. Organic farming is a hotly debated and controversial topic because there is growing evidence that the accumulation of man made fertilizers and pesticides overtime may cause health problems in the future.

There is a lot less processing of organic produce on its journey to your kitchen. That means they contain no hydrogenated fats, artificial additives, preservatives or genetically modified organisms (GMOs). Certain organic foods taste better and have more flavor.
